Morgan Aguirre back on the podium at the Gravel Earth Series

Impermanence

‘Anicca’ is a Buddhist concept that refers to impermanence: assuming that nothing lasts and everything changes. And yet, there are changes so radical that make you wonder whether your memories are even part of your own life.
Morgan Aguirre may have felt something similar this weekend, looking down at the crowd at Ranxo, standing at the podium of the Gravel Earth Series not far from her own home.

After a small personal setback in 2019, Morgan bought her first bike. She couldn’t know at the time, but it would change her life forever. Before crossing the Atlantic and settling in Girona, Morgan lived a very different life in the United States. The leap was no small one, but in Europe she found endless dirt roads, a cycling community that embraced her and a space where her passion for gravel could become a way of life. Today, seeing her name in the overall standings of the Gravel Earth Series, it’s clear the gamble was both brave and right.

Ranxo. To truly empty the tank

The small town of Ponts, in Lleida, once again overflowed this weekend for the grand finale of the GES. They call it “the last dance,” but to get there your blue suede shoes have to be well worn. Morgan has danced to every rhythm this year and entered that ballroom with a certain peace of mind.

Ranxo is, in fact, a special place for her:
“Confidence is definitely not my strength and I think every time I race I gain a bit more, but last year [at Ranxo] battling with Karolina [Migon] to the finish really helped me believe in my own strength as a competitor.”

Morgan didn’t want to hear anything about points or data, but a few days earlier we asked, on our own, the infamous AI about the chances of seeing Aguirre on the podium. It gave us dozens of scenarios, outcomes, combinations; it spoke of numbers, sums, subtractions and points. The conclusion seemed undeniable, and we decided to believe it: things would need to go very wrong for Morgan not to land on a step of the overall GES podium.

“I’m excited and nervous”, she said last week. “Just like last year I feel as though I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Maybe it’s just a feeling you get towards the end of the year. The last chance to truly empty the tank. I owe it to Orbea and to my team PAS Racing to leave everything out there.”

Of course she did. Morgan gave it her all in Ponts, no holding back, no assumptions. She raced as if it were the very first of the season and crossed the line in second place, securing third overall in the Gravel Earth Series. She showed she was racing —almost— on home turf and chose the right bike for the occasion. Terra is perfect for Ranxo’s dry, stony terrain. A rocky surface that also puts wheels to the test, one that her OQUO conquered with absolute success.

The Revolution

This 2025 has been a special year for Morgan. After signing with Orbea, she took a decisive step forward: it was obvious every time she pinned on a number.
“Signing a contract with Orbea meant everything to me. It was my first professional contract, and joining the team gave me the ability to turn my passion into a full time job. Orbea believed in me and I believe in them. It’s been amazing to grow with such a prestigious brand through a very critical time in its history. I love being part of the gravel revolution.”

Just like she says, she’s been part of something bigger: the launch of Terra and Terra Race. Hours of testing, hard work and constant feedback from a woman who knows what it means to face thousands of kilometers of dirt in every condition. These bikes carry her imprint, and that makes riding them a more personal, more intimate experience.

“I will say I love them both. Lately with the crazy rocky gravel we have here in Girona I’ve been pretty firmly stuck riding Terra, I love being able to oversized tires on it: it’s still a speed machine. That said, for fast smoother races Terra Race is the tool for the job. It’s responsive, stiffer and carries speed like nothing I’ve ever felt. The wheels and new hubs though, wow, they’re as fast as they are indestructible.”

A New Life

Gravel is unstoppable, and women have a lot to say in its future. Morgan is committed to an essential cause: women-only races.
“This is a non-negotiable. After watching the podium slip away at the UCI Girona race this last weekend because of men involved I will never allow myself to race a mixed start again. We work much too hard to have the outcome of our races be determined by anything but sheer strength and real race tactics. […] It’s super exciting to watch the number of women on bikes grow and I think the best way to highlight this new reality is give all women the space to race that they deserve.”

Looking ahead to next year, the direction is clear. Morgan has proven she belongs among the elite of gravel racing, and her story is only just beginning.

“I have high expectations for my next season. I think that once again I’ll be able to raise the bar in 2026. My hope is to be able to target the Lifetime Grand Prix next year. It’s been a goal to participate since I started racing gravel, but it’s not something you do halfway, I didn’t want to commit before I thought I could really be in it and I think that 2026 is that time. Also having started racing gravel in Europe as an American it also feels like a bit of a ‘coming home’.”

With this weekend’s podium, Morgan confirms that her leap into cycling wasn’t a shot in the dark but the beginning of a solid career. She has grown with patience, solidified her results and, above all, earned the respect of both rivals and fans. What began as an improbable dream is now Morgan Aguirre’s new life, and the future of gravel racing.

Boundless

Morgan’s choice at Ranxo:
“On crazy rocky gravel […] I’ve been pretty firmly stuck riding Terra, I love being able to big MTB tires on it: it’s still a speed machine.”

Gravel Unleashed

“For fast smoother races the Terra Race is the tool for the job. It’s responsive, stiffer and carries speed like nothing I’ve ever felt.”
