Orbea and Lotto Dstny committed to cycling

Orbea and Lotto have been competing side by side for a year, exchanging experiences and knowledge in a partnership that is anything but random. Of the 18 teams in the World Tour, we chose the Belgian team because growth and learning comes easier when surrounded by partners who share the same DNA. Without a passion for cycling, there would be no cutting-edge bikes or teams like Lotto, which has nearly four decades of sponsorship under its belt.

Like Orbea, where we have been manufacturing bikes since 1926, the Lotto team is the home team—a reference point for fans at the biggest races on the calendar. Who hasn’t seen Basque and Belgian flags waving together along the roadside?

For races to exist, it’s not just the cyclists that matter—you also need the best bikes and the most dedicated sponsors. But these elements only last because of commitments and projects that go beyond business: Lotto, the Belgian national lottery, allocates €345 million annually to socially significant within the science, culture, non-profit and sports industries. Similarly at Orbea, we aim to develop cycling schools, build regional bike trails and collaborate on various kinds of social initiatives.

Cycling culture is a feast for the eyes: the roads of the Basque Country and Belgium are filled with men and women pedaling from place to place. We love what we see every day, like the mountains of Euskadi and the climbs of the Flemish Ardennes where the great spring classics are held. From this perspective, bikes stop being mere mechanical objects and become a way of life.

“There were other teams interested in me, but I was already a Lotto fan, so it was a decision made first with my heart. Now, my head also says I made the right decision because I am happy here.”
