Trash Free Trails: cleaning to reconnect
Although cycling may seem like an individual sport, it goes far beyond pedaling solo on remote trails. Cycling connects us not only with other cyclists, but also with the nature around us.
From small gestures, such as moving a branch out of the way, to leaving positive comments on the cycling community’s networks, this activity is based on respect for the environment.
KEEPING TRAILS CLEAN MEANS RESPECTING THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE WHO CREATE THOSE TRAILS OR THOSE CREATED BY NATURE ITSELF
The presence of bottles, wrappers and other debris on our favorite trails tarnishes the experience. Not only do they pollute these ‘sacred’ spaces for the cycling community, they also disconnect us from the true essence of cycling in nature.
In our quest to build a better world, we join initiatives that seek to reconnect people with natural environments. As conscious cyclists, we take responsibility for protecting the places that make our sport possible.
At Orbea, we not only believe in a more just society, we try to achieve it by supporting projects such as Trash Free Trails.
THEIR GOAL IS SIMPLE: TO REMOVE POLLUTION FROM THE UK’S FOOTPATHS AND NATURAL SPACES
This non-profit organization was born in 2017. Since then, it has grown to bring together an extensive network of volunteers and partners committed to leaving a positive impact on the areas they love.
At Orbea, we share these values and believe in the importance of respecting and caring for nature. We have a firm commitment to be part of the solution, not only through the creation of quality bicycles, but also by supporting initiatives that contribute to a fairer, greener and more sustainable world.
The impact of Trash Free Trails is remarkable: they have removed 216,000 pieces of debris along more than 5,000 km of recreational trails
Despite the progress, there is still a long way to go. It is estimated that there could be more than 9 million pieces of litter on UK trails, which means finding one piece every 24 meters.
