Local Trails

From the historic paths of the Pyrenees to the views of the Basque coast and crossing the enchanting Navarrese forests, this journey through the Northern Iberian Peninsula reveals trails that hold a connection far deeper than simply joining two destinations.

In "Local Trails," we tell the story of how the restoration and construction of trails have brought positive benefits to nearby communities.

In Riglos, Basaburua and Lesaka, locals have dedicated years adapting trails specifically for mountain biking. Each community approaches this work in its own way, with its own style and philosophy, yet all share the same passion and purpose.

This dedication has transformed the region into one of the area’s densest trail networks, offering an unparalleled experience for riders on two wheels.

We begin our journey in Riglos, in the Pre-Pyrenees of Huesca, where the imposing shadow of the mallos hides a vast labyrinth of trails.

Restored over the past 15 years, these trails allow us to revisit historic routes that once connected towns by bike.

"At that time, we didn't realize it, but we were pioneers. We sowed the first seeds of trailbuilding." Javi Chopin – MTB Kingdoms

Those seeds have flourished in places like Basaburua. This small valley in Northwest Navarra hides dreamlike trails under the leafy canopies of the beech forests.

These trails were brought to life in Auzolan, where the members of Basaburua MTB poured their sweat into every berm until they built a comprehensive trail network.

"We have been working in an area for some time to cater to all users, from beginners to seasoned riders." Manu Álvarez – Basaburua MTB

Continuing along the trail, we reach a clearing between the trees. From here, we can see the sea, which signals the final stretch of our journey.

But not before stopping in Lesaka. This charming Navarra town, a few kilometers from the Basque coast, is home to captivating trails.

Here, veteran local riders dedicate their time to mentoring the youth, teaching not just riding skills but the importance of caring for these trails in such a privileged environment.

"Being able to ride a bike here is unique. The views of the sea before descending a trail are priceless." Doug McDonald – Bizibide Lesaka

Throughout this adventure, we have discovered three places, three authentic paradises. Every step along the trail has revealed the extraordinary efforts of united communities, who have worked tirelessly to infuse every turn with the magic of their landscapes.

Rise

For this trip, they chose Rise, an ideal bike to tackle the climbs and descents that define the trails in this region.
