The Grain

Every idea is a seed with great potential.

The Grain follows an 860 km gravel ride between Düsseldorf and Dijon, where two cities united by centuries of mustard-making tradition become the backdrop for a deeply personal story that grows into a shared adventure.

Life rarely follows a straight road.

Pierre-Charles moved from the world of fine art to the everyday rhythm of a bike café, discovering that creating moments for others could become the most rewarding turning point in his life.

Borders don´t stop good ideas from spreading.

For centuries, mustard has travelled across Europe, carrying recipes, traditions, and local identities with it. Much like cycling today, it reminds us that diversity doesn’t divide us: it enriches us.

Schicke Mütze is much more than a bike shop.

From its early days rooted in classic bicycles to organising rides for every kind of cyclist, Schicke Mütze has always been driven by a passion for bringing people together.

As one of Germany’s early pioneers of gravel cycling, it has grown into the heart of Düsseldorf’s cycling community.

«I realised my personal story was part of something much bigger: the shared history of two cities, Düsseldorf and Dijon. The world’s mustard capitals.»
— Pierre-Charles Flipo

A shared heritage

Both Mostertfreunde Düsseldorf and Reine de Dijon share something far more valuable than mustard itself: a deep respect for a centuries-old tradition. Their passion has helped preserve a craft that made Düsseldorf and Dijon the world’s mustard capitals, keeping a rich heritage alive while continuing to inspire new generations.

The Grain connects France and Germany, bringing together people from all walks of life, united by the simple joy of riding and the chance to be part of an adventure they’ll never forget.

No secret recipe, just have fun.

One idea. Two cities. 860 km. 12,000 m of climbing.

Just as a tiny mustard seed can grow into something far greater, an idea only needs the right conditions to grow.

Carsten became not only Pierre-Charles’ inspiration, but also the trusted companion who helped bring his vision of The Grain to life.

The Grain. An all-roads adventure. Connecting places, traditions, and people.
