OET: From Dirt to Gold

When you embark on the conquest of a new adventure, you know that every journey has its beginning and its end, but you do not know the stories that await you and the challenges you will face along the way. This road has been full of moments that will remain engraved in your memory, but now, we are facing the final steps of this odyssey.

For the Orbea Fox Enduro Team, the UCI Enduro World Cup 2024 comes to an end with the last stage. One last pedal stroke to challenge the mountains of Val Louron and conquer its trails, leaving their mark in the heart of the French Pyrenees, in the town of Loudenvielle-Peyragudes.

We have certainly experienced great moments during this season: Flo’s victories, Martin facing a Power Stage for the first time, Edgar destroying hairpin turns, Eneko’s crashes in training, Gilles fixing bikes in his underwear, Primoz’s countless coffees, etc. A slight smile comes over us as we remember each snapshot.

The time had come to close this exciting phase, and the last race condensed the full essence of the season. But we know the Chilean, and we knew that in their head there was only one concept: victory. For Martin and Edgar, this race was also of vital importance. The Belgian has shown the necessary speed to reach the top, but a season plagued by setbacks, breakdowns and illnesses, has prevented him from finding the pace that would lead him to compete among the best in EDR. The Canary Islander, for his part, had not been at his best all year, but giving up is not an option for him.

The adventure in Loudenvielle did not start in the best possible way. The van with all the team’s equipment broke down on the way back from Andorra, which delayed the set-up of the paddock by a day. The weather didn’t seem to be in the mood either, with heavy rains every day. But in the face of adversity, the group copes, and led by Primoz, everyone did their best to prepare everything in time for the training day.

A training day which was key. After seeing the panorama that was in the mountains, with the trails bathed in mud and full of roots ready to trip up riders, Martin decided to return to the platform pedals, as he did when he began his adventure in enduro 13 years ago. A decision that put him back on victory lane.

“When I woke up this morning I had the strange feeling that I could do it. The conditions were incredibly tough, with some very deep ruts and super wet terrain. It was a tough race, but it went perfectly,”

The rain did not stop, and the E-EDR race took place on muddy terrain, marked by the tracks of the previous day’s runs. It was a real battlefield, where the situation could change in the blink of an eye, and it did. Edgar started strongly, achieving a solid second position in the first section, but a fall prevented him from keeping the pace, finishing thirteenth. Flo, on the other hand, faced a more complicated start. We know that the Chilean has a hard time starting, and the terrain, which was unfamiliar, took her halfway through the race in sixth position. However, once again, their extraordinary capacity for effort was on display, and after some epic final stretches, they managed to climb to second place. The weekend culminated with Flo being crowned overall E-EDR champion and the Orbea FOX Enduro Team being recognized as the best team of the event. A truly happy outcome.

“It was tough conditions, a pretty tough race. I think I pushed too hard in the early stages because of the conditions, but that’s racing, and I pushed hard to make up for lost time. I feel great, and the World Championship is the main goal,” Flo Espiñeira.

At Orbea, every day is a new adventure. Whether it’s developing a new bike prototype, organizing an event or supporting our racing teams, we know that every step will be full of challenges. However, just like the enduro team, we face those challenges with determination and passion, always with the goal of reaching the end of each adventure.

That’s why we wanted to show “From Dirt to Gold” to the public, a video in which you can learn the ins and outs of our OET team and the importance of facing adversity, in order to excel in high competition enduro
